On error bounds for lower semicontinuous functions

We give some sufficient conditions for proper lower semicontinuous functions on metric spaces to have error bounds (with exponents). For a proper convex function f on a normed space X the existence of a local error bound implies that of a global error bound. If in addition X is a Banach space, then error bounds can be characterized by the subdifferential of f. In a reflexive Banach space X, we further obtain several sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of error bounds in terms of the lower Dini derivative of f. Physics with large extra dimensions

The recent understanding of string theory opens the possibility that the string scale can be as low as a few TeV. The apparent weakness of gravitational interactions can then be accounted by the existence of large internal dimensions, in the sub-millimeter region. Furthermore, our world must be confined to live on a brane transverse to these large dimensions, with which it interacts only gravitationally. In my lecture, I describe briefly this scenario which gives a new theoretical framework for solving the gauge hierarchy problem and the unification of all interactions. I also discuss a minimal embedding of the standard model, gauge coupling unification and proton stability. Features of the Motion of a Gas-Liquid Medium in a Compound Shell (Sphere and Truncated Cone) Subject to Vibration

The results from an experimental study into the dynamic behavior of a gas-liquid medium and solid particles in a compound shell (sphere-truncated cone) are reported on. Symmetry of the Barochronous Motions of a Gas

We study the system of nonlinear differential equations which expresses the constancy of the algebraic invariants of the Jacobian matrix for smooth vector fields in three-dimensional space. This system is equivalent to the equations of gas dynamics which describe the barochronous motions of a gas (the pressure and density depend only on the time). We present the results of computation of the admissible local Lie group and construction of the general solution of the system. We mention a few new problems that arise here.     

Separation and determination of m-phenoxybenzaldehyde reaction products by capillary gas chromatography

A capillary GC method employing an internal standard has been developed and successfully used for quantitative determination both of the raw materials used for the manufacture of m-phenoxybenzaldehyde and for the components of the reaction mixtures obtained at various stages of the development of the process. A complete analysis can be performed in a single temperature programmed run.
